These are my family interests in Hertfordshire. Mostly around the Hertford, Hertingfordbury area. Although I grew  up in Hemel Hempstead I am far away now!

Hi Melanie,

Whilst making a search of the 1851 census for Hertingfordbury, I ran across the families of Francis & Hannah Cull and William & Elizabeth Price.  I assume you already have the details - if not I will send them on to you.

Best wishes from sunny Hertfordshire.

Peter.

Hi Melanie,

Greetings from sunny Hertfordshire.

Here are the details of the two families that I found in the 1851 census for Hertingfordbury.

Francis Cull  Head  M  47  (?) Miller  Bn.Passingham, Northants
Hannah Cull  Wife  M  49   Bn.Calverton,Bucks
Frederick Cull  Son  U  24  Journeyman Carpenter,Calverton
Joseph Cull  Son  U  22  Journeyman Stone Mason Hertingfordbury
Francis Cull  Son  U  18 Whatling Ltd (?) Apprentice H'bury
Henry Cull  Son  U  16  Blacksmith Apprentice  H'bury
Thomas Cull  Son  U  13  Ag.Lab  H'bury

(The villages of Passingham and Calverton virtually join and are near Stony Stratford.)

William  Price  Head  M  36  Shoemaker Bn.London,Middx
Elizabeth Price  M  37  Hertford, Herts
Ann Price  Dau  U  12  Hertingfordbury.

I have taken these two families a step further, for example the Cull's are still at Hertingfordbury in 1881 whereas the Prices are at Essendon.     I am not sure how much you already know of these families but if you think I may be able to help in any way, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards   ...   Peter of Potters Bar

Hi Melanie from not so sunny Nottingham.

I don't suppose any of your Peet's made it to Nottingham or Newark on Trent did they??

Peter, thank-you. re the Culls, I have quite alot of info but not as far back as you have gone for this family. Joseph the son is my gggrandfather, this family also joined the Peets and Prices thus my mothers cousins were Price and Cull and my mother Peet.

Edgar Cull one of my Grandfathers cousins made a huge family tree so my info is great from Francis and Hannah on down, but I have never managed to find out Hannahs family name!
Thank-you again for any info you have found or might find!! Melanie

Hi Malanie,  More from scorching Hertfordshire.

A search of the 1851 for Hertford Town revealed two entries for Peet(e) families viz -

Address  ::  Butcherley Green, Hertford.
Samuel Peete  M  70  Butcher b.Hertford, Herts (Deaf)
Elizabeth Peete  M 64   Welwyn, Herts

Address  ::  Hertingfordbury Road, Hertford.
Thomas Peet  Head  Widower  82  Annuitant  St.Ipolytes,Herts
Mary Murray  Dau  Widow  50   Hertford,Herts
Ann Peet  Dau  U  47  Hertford,Herts
Jane Murray  G.Dau  U  27  Dressmaker  Watton,Herts
Mary Murray  G.Dau  U  25  Dressmaker  Watton,Herts
Thomas  Murray  G.Son  U  20     Aston,Herts
James Murray  G.Son  U  16  Journeyman Chandler  Hertford.

I have posted a message for details of Francis and Hannah's marriage in the hope of tracing her maiden name.

Fingers crossed.   Regards   ...   Peter

Hi Melanie,

There has been no response to my posting on the Buckinghamshire board so I made a trip to Aylesbury RO and searched the Calverton PRs and came up with the following -

Marriage  5th March  1827 by banns.  FRANCIS CULL of Passenham and  HANNAH SHIRLEY of Calverton. Witnessed by Daniel Grace and Elizabeth Shirley.

Birth/Christening  25th April 1802  HANNAH  daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Shirley

Marriage  31st July 1797 by banns.  Joseph Shirley and Elizabeth Robat (?) both of Calverton.  Witnessed by John Binder and William Jarvis.

As an added bonus the following  birth/christenings of other children of Joseph and Elizabeth -

Mary Binder  - B.19th Aug 1799  Ch.1st Sept 1799
Martha         - B. 3rd July 1803    Ch.15th July 1803
Elizabeth     - B.6th June 1807    Ch.14th June 1807

The IGI records the marriage of Mary Binder Shirley to Shadrack Towrsey on 19th Nov 1818 at Calverton (Shadrack b.30th Dec 1787, Long Crendon,Bucks(Nr.Thame) Died c.1846

Now you know Hannah's maiden name.

Regards   ...   Peter

Peter I cannot thank you enough, this was the very start of my family history interest -  the Cull family -  and has always been something I wanted to take further. How kind of you. I hope that you recieve the same kind of consideration from people while you are searching !!
