Berwick Baptism-William Davidson
« on: Friday 05 June 09 11:37 UTC (UK) »

Searching for baptism of William Davidson 1805c. No information on parents.  William was married to Mary Ewart 15 July 1830 Graitney, Dumfries which states he was from the Parish of Berwick. Any help much appreciated. Huh

The 1861 Census says that  he was born Kirkpatrick Fleming, Dumfries. I have to sign off now but if you need any more help just send me a message.

Hello Rae
Thanks for replying. Have him on the 1851 census which also says Kirkpatrick . Have had no success finding him on Scotlands People so thought I would try the place he said he came from on his marriage certificate.

Unfortunately the marriage information usually refers to where they are at that time - not at birth.  The census is more likely to be accurate.  Is his age always consistent?

Thank you Audrey
This would fit perfectly. He also called one of his daughters Elizabeth.
Will now send for the parish records for Berwick to look for any more of the family.

Berwick-upon-Tweed and the parish of Berwick is in Northumberland, but Channelkirk is in Berwickshire.  You might get more information posting on the Berwickshire board.

Thanks Jora
Must admit was a bit surprised when I thought he came from Berwick-upon-Tweed. Sounds more like the family in Channelkirk, Berwick, Scotland. Cannot find this place on the map.

The best place to look for maps is the National Library of Scotland - try http://www.nls.uk/maps/os/6inch/ for the Ordnance Survey.
