James JOHN Newport to Australia
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 16:43 UTC (UK) »

James JOHN was born in 1829 , probably in Newport. He appears on 1841 Census but then there is no record of him until he turns up in Australia in the 1860s. Is there any way of finding him as an apprentice seaman ? I haven't found the ship that he travelled on and he changed his name to Brown in Australia  ( family letters prove that). He apparently jumped ship.  Can anyone help to find him in the missing years?
