JDB307 and i have just discovered a link in our family trees whilst  on another board.
as other Fifers may be interested/connected we are now putting the details on the 'right' board!!

I have a query anyway - others may be able  to help.

Andrew leitch chr.2/3/1679 Wemyss. Jack has parents as Andrew leitch (1651 Dundee) and Christian katren Michie married 1678.

However SP has Andrews parents as James leitch & Catharine Michie married 23/8/1678 Wemyss.

SP: birth of a Catharine michie 22/12/1650 Alloa, Clackmannan. no record of a Christian michie any county 1640 - 1660.

Christian may of sourse have been known by her 2nd name.

can we sort this?  Diddy  Wink

Hello Diddy,

Just got back from the hospital.  What I wrote earlier was:

Yes, it's the same family.  I've got James Leitch born c.1651 in Dundee and married there in c.1678 to Christian Kathren Michie.  They had three children, all born in Wemyss:
Andrew bapt. 2 Mar 1679
Isobell bapt. 14 Aug 1681
Christian bapt. 2 Sep 1683

Andrew married Isabell Ballantine (b.1685 in Beath) on 10 Jun 1706 in Beath.  They had six chidren:
Elspet bapt. 27 Apr 1707 in Beath
Margaret bapt. 1709 in Dunfermline
John bapt. 9 Mar 1712 in Aberdour
Andrew born 17 Jan bapt. 20 Jan 1715 in Aberdour
William bapt. 22 Aug 1718 in Aberdour
Isobel bapt. 12 Jul 1726 in Aberdour

James Leitch (b.1651) was my 7x great grandfather.

Hope this helps,

Jack

Hello jack, yes i agree with all of that however just querying the Christian kathren michie vs catharine michie. i think it must be the same person who used her middle name. unfortunately the cert on SP has been overexposed and is pretty much illegible. not sure ordering it would help as transciption is clear as catharine.

only birth of a catharine michie i can find is 22/12/1650 in Alloa, Clackmannan parents Alex and Margaret Wartlaw.
not sure how far this is from Dundee / wemyss.

Hello Diddy,

Alloa is a fair hike from Dundee and from Wemyss, being to the west of Fife well up the River Forth near Stirling.

Don't get too worried about the discrepancy in the marriage places.  It was quite common for two ceremonies to take place, one in the bride's parish and the other in the groom's where they were to live.

Further to my earlier post, William Leitch was my 5x Great Grandfather, born in Aberdour 1718 where he married Margaret Bower and they had four children, all born in Dunfermline:
Andrew b.24 Jun Bapt. 30 Jun 1745
George b.30 Sep bapt. 5 Oct 1746
John b.16 Aug bapt. 21 Aug 1748
Isabel bapt.29 Mar 1752.

There may be more but I haven't found them yet.

Regards,

Jack

Hello Diddy,

William Leitch my 5xg g/f was born Aberdour, bapt. 22 Aug 1718 and married Margaret Bower 28 Apr 1744 in Aberdour.

Margaret Leitch born 11 Sep 1742 Dunfermline bapt. 2 Oct 1743
William Leitch born 23 Apr 1745 Dunfermline bapt. 28 Oct 1745

Margaret may have had a twin brother James but I haven't checked that yet.
