I am seeking information on Thomas Featherston jnr. m 5 July, 1874 to Hannah Robinson (born abt 1858 in Renwick, Cumberland). Hannah had a sister, Elizabeth who is shown on the 1881 census as being 13 years old and the adopted daughter of Thomas Featherston snr. and his wife, Mary.

Also info re; John Featherston born abt 1822 m Jane Douglas.

Hannah and Elizabeth were not sisters

1871 census for Renwick (Kirkoswald)

Elizabeth Robinson 49 unmarried b Renwick
Hannah 14 daughter b Kirkoswald
Elizabeth 3 granddaughter

Perhaps ... Hannah provides the link.

Looking at the 1851, Elizabeth seems to have had another daughter - perhaps she was the mother of young Elizabeth.

1851
Vial Moor, Kirkoswald
Joseph ROBINSON 67 Gen Lab, Alston
Sarah 70 Renwick
Elizabeth (unm) 28 Labourer in Candle Wick Manufacture, Renwick
John (unm) 21 Lime Burner, Renwick
Mary (gr dau) 6 Kirkoswald
Sarah (gr dau) 2 Kirkoswald

Censuses suggest a birth for Elizabeth in the 1820s, perhaps c1823, but the IGI only has a baptism in 1818.  This seems to name her mother as Susanna ... I think this is an error, as Joseph and Sarah had children bap both before and after that 1818 baptism.

Thanks, I must really get a grip on this family.  I do not know what happened to Elizabeth after she was adopted by the Featherston(e) family in Alston. 
I have an e-mail from Mavis Reade who is the grandaughter of Thomas and Hannah and who says that Elizabeth and Hannah were sisters, but she hasn't found their parents.  Unfortunately, my last e-mail to Mavis was returned.
