Carsons of Ireland Help required
« on: Friday 05 June 09 19:44 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for information on a branch of my family tree.

The people I am looking for are:
William Carson b. around 1824 - Son of James Carson born around 1793 and Margaret Houston born around 1786. Margaret was born in County Down. I do believe that they were all Presbyterian and all moved to Scotland .

Any help will be gratefully accepted.
Regards,

There is no complete census of Ireland prior to 1901.  Do you know when they went to Scotland?  Griffith's Valuation is likely too late for them in the 1840s/50s and also the Tithe Applotment books (1830s).

Hi Purpeller,

William Carson was born around 1824.
He was married in Eastwood, Renfrewshire, Scotland in 1843. Hence, he must have moved between the two dates.
Both his parents died in Glasgow so I assume they came to Scotland as a family group when he was a boy.
Other than that I am lost. The only other information relating to Ireland was that his mother, Margaret, was born in the County of Down.

Any help or advice would be gratefully accepted,
regards,

There was a tribe of Carsons living in Donaghadee Co Down in the 1840's, I have a  Ann Jane Carson baptised there on the 2nd Feb 1845, Ann  was the daughter of Robert Carson and Martha Crawford, this family was Presbyterian as Ann was married in the Millisle Presbyterian church and is buried in that graveyard.

Densavage, Please accept my apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Unfortunately, as yet, I cannot find any connection between our families.

I have a little more information that I hope may help.

I have a John Carson born around 1770. Unfortunately I do not know the name of his wife.
They had a son James born around 1793 who married an Elizabeth Houston born around 1786.
They in turn had three children, William b.1824, Jane b.1828 and Harriet b.1833.

I believe, although not certain, that all the above people were Presbyterian born in County Down.
However, I have no idea in which parish. Hence, the reason I have come to a standstill in my Carson line.

I would be appreciative of any guidance that anyone is able to give.
Thank you
