Hello,
Could some kind soul who is going into the Archives at some point check the banns for the marriage of William Utley (or Uttley) and Elizabeth Stanley who were married on 23 Jan 1832 in Wath. I would like to confirm details of parents from the banns register.
Thanks in anticipation,
Brian (down South!)

Thanks for sparing the time, however this is not the same William Utley, mine was born c1810 in Barnsley and married Elizabeth STANEY according to the IGI, however in my search to answer the puzzle I have tried to find my way through the Ut/Uttey families from the censuses and your information on Benjamin's son is most welcome, cheers.

I must admit I use the IGI more as a signpost to things than anything else, the coverage in some counties is very poor and especially with non-conformist records - which I wouldn't be at all surprised if that is where the answer lies! For instance although they say Staney I wouldn't rule out Stanley or even Stacey. Some of their transcribers had no knowledge of the area and even less of reading 19th century writing. Add that to the fact that many entries look as though they have been written by the local doctor and its a surprise how many letters in the names are correct. Apologies to those decent transcribers out there.
