HI again,  I do appreciate your interest and advice  :-)

OK looked again on IGI but none of the Stanton names were ours.   Looks like Agnes used Hanks as her surname from when they had their 1st child to him and her sons then used it also.  Since the original Stanton father was in England and no doubt had no idea of her whereabouts I assume the name held no sentimental value lol

I did find one thing on NAAIRS but have NO idea what it means lol.  depot is TAB  Source  is MHG (which I see is MHG - Master of the Supreme Court, Pretoria. Estates)
Type is LEER  reference 19179  it has Herbert Harry Edgar Hanks and 1911  so am assuming its about Herbert's death as it says 1911.  The researcher I contacted did say she found en estate file but did warn it may not say too much and had to be collected in person.  Am considering getting this just wish I had something else to grab as her minimum rate is 2hours and US$20ph so makes it an expensive piece of paper that may say nothing lol

The IGI for Harold Hanks seems way too early...  he was born around  1873..... 26  years difference.  Family seems to think he may have been born in Germany or Denmark thats why I am so eager to find some link from South Africa to where he did come from as it's all guess work.

Cheers

Hello Yvonne

Think you are on a right track and that the reference in N.A.A.I.R.S. you found is an Estate Notice, (which maybe appeared about  two years or so after his death), as far as I know, 'MSCE' is the abbreviation they use in NAAIRS for a Death.

TAB, from NAAIRS means that the notification was in the old Transvaal Republic division of the courts.  Johannesburg, i,e. Jeppestown, lol, was in TAB!   Grin   Grin

As its 1911, the 'event' could have been anytime before that. With one of my family, the death in NAAIRS is given as 1940 - 1943! but that is definitely under a MSCE.

Try reading through this Sticky, in RC, S. Africa, for some advice   -  "obtaining copies of documents from the SA Archives", by EmPea.

Personally, I'm not in favour of sites that demand fees/membership.

Yvonne, ditch your researcher!!!   Wink  many, very kind and knowledgeable folk here in RC to help you.  Just post perhaps now in Denmark, or Germany.  Try reading my post in RC, Europe, "Moe Family of Norway", that may give you some ideas?!   Wink

Also, someone with ances*ry membership, I'm sure, could easily find what you need?Huh  Huh

Good hunting

Cheers
