3rd Norfolks and Boer War
« on: Sunday 02 August 09 08:20 UTC (UK) »

Any ideas on where I can find information regarding muster rolls/service records of the 3rd Norfolks during the Boer War.  I have a photo showing Frederick William Britton/Brittain wearing the Queen's & King's Boer War medals and would like to learn more.  He re-enlisted for WWI and was transferred to the 10th Battalion, Border Regiment and was killed in France in 1918.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd try the national archives website. I believe most army records are held there, rather than in County Record Offices.

Hi

The only match on CWGC site is for

Frederick William Britton - died 24/11/1917 aged 30  - unless he only used one name?

He was a private in South Wales Borderers 2nd Bn  service no. 29651

son of late Mr & Mrs Britton; husband of Emily Britton of Mill House, Somers Crescent, Ilfracombe.

Named on Cambrai Memorial, Louverval.

Does any of that tie in?

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your reply but I have Fred in the Great War, for some reason his name was down as Brittain for that.  It was his Boer War history I was looking for.  I went to the site mentioned by the previous respondant and they have very kindly verified the medal ID but I'm still seeking more detail.

Thanks for the obvious effort you put in Lee.
