The above is my great grandmother, who was born in Kingsomborne, Hampshire.. I have managed to find census details from 1881, but can find nothing for 1851 - 1871. I have tried variations of Legge and resorted to just putting in Legge and the year of birth, but nothing comes up. I use FindMyPast and have had no joy. Has anyone any bright ideas that would help me?

I'm struggling to find her too.

The 1851 census for Hampshire isn't icluded in FMP yet.  Undecided

In 1861 I can only see a Rosa LEGGE working as an apprentice at Kingsomborne Post office.

When and where did Georgina Legge marry?

Awful transcription but.... 1851 Census HO107/1672/235/28 - Kingsomborne, Hampshire

John Henry Legge 31  Head, Winchester, Hampshire - Tailor employing one man
Saul Legge 30  Wife, Baybridge, Hampshire - looks like Sarah
Rora Legge 6  Daug, Kingsomborne, Hampshire - looks like Kate Rosa
Gencina Legge 6, Daug, Kingsomborne, Hampshire

Ages might be 4

bearkat

Thank you for spending time on my problem. First of all I must make an apology as I should have included the 1871 census as one that I had details of. Georgina was married to James Leigh Pearson on 20 February 1871 at St Matthews Church Islington. I now recall that I believed it was a little odd to find that the couple were living apart so soon after they had married, but I guess it was in order to retain their jobs, as James was aspiring to be a watchmaker and he was living in Essex.

So far as any reference to Georgina in 1851 in 1861 censuses those other ones and I would very much like to see.

Laurina
I just managed to catch your reply before whisking this off to bearkat. No wonder I couldn't find any details as you are quite right Sarah is the wife, the second name that you thought was Kate is in fact Rosa and the third one must be Georgina. I'm extremely grateful for you making this discovery.

I bet Bill will be pleased to find  another LEGGE researcher.  Cheesy

Eileen, had you found them in the census? - They were certainly well hidden.

I am quite staggered at how you have managed to locate these records. How Legge can become Sogge, is beyond me, as is how you found it. You have my profound thanks and respect.

As I said before, glad to be of help, and I do love a challenge. The unusual children's names do help too, as does the fact that Kingsomborne is quite a small place.

Good luck with your research.
