Please could some kind person have a go at finding the birth record for CAROLINE CARVETH?
I know she married Kenneth Banks on 1 July 1821 in St Austell. Her grandfather was Richard Carveth b 1748, Probus, Cornwall.
I suspect she was born about 1800 and her father was possibly Thomas Carveth b 1771, Probus.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Rian

Thank you Priscilla. That's very odd — I wonder where the discrepancy came in? I have the date as 1st July 1821, plus witnesses. Source was rootsweb ancestry pages via Julia Mossman parish clerk. They either married twice or there's a mistake. Thanks for letting me know — I'll try and find out which date is correct. Either would fit her children's births (first was March 23) and her being mentioned in her grandfather's will by her married name (Sept 22). And both sites have her husband's name as Kenneth when it was actually Kennett. These things are sent to try us! However I do know who her grandfather was, and from that have been able to trace her ancestors back a very long way with the help of some detailed on-line family trees. I have a lot of work to do, but it seems that Caroline was an (illegitimate) descendent of the Arundels, Plantaganets, Canmores and the Athelings! I am suffering from extreme mind-boggle at the moment......... Thanks again, Rian.

Hi Rian,
Just to make it really interesting, the CFHS have 1 June 1821 but they do have him as listed as Kennett. I imagine it is a little hard to read and when transcribing one would be more inclined to see the name being Kenneth rather than Kennett.
The reading of the Banns springs to mind re the different dates. The IGI does not list as either an extracted or a submitted record. It would take a bit of work to find what Batch No I023480 refers to.
1 Jun and 1 July I suspect may be a transcription error from one source. You can either purchase a copy of the entry from the CRO of the parish register. Alternatively I would suggest you email the CRO for clarification of the date. They are generally very obliging.
Cheers Kris

Cornwall OPC has the marriage as;
01 July 1821, Kenneth BANKS, Caroline CARVELL,St Austell, witnesses, M Carveth and Ann Carveth, by Banns
Having read your posting if you think she was illegitimate then her Mother would be one of Richard Carveths daughters

Well found Trish! I didn't think of that spelling variation. The illegitimacy I was referring to was a lot further back in time (1528). As far as I know there were only 2 surviving daughters and both would have been too young to be Caroline's mother. I have e-mailed the CRO to see if they can help sort out the discrepancy in marriage dates. Hopefully Thomas's marriage and Caroline's birth will eventually surface! Thanks for your help, Rian.

The CRO checked the original register and found that the date was 1st June 1821. So well done the CFHS ( and Kris for finding this one). Unfortunately to find Caroline's birth date and parentage will cost to much for my resources at present, so I will just have to hope someone out there knows and tells me.
Thanks again for everyone's help, Rian.
