GILBERT and STRIKE in South Hill Cornwall
« on: Sunday 07 June 09 07:35 UTC (UK) »

Hi out there
Wondering if anyone out there can help with our quest to find Baptism of George Gilbert around 1821. He married Grace Strike in South Hill around 1844-i have the wedding listed. Grace's dad was called William and George's dad was also William Gilbert. But we have yet to find a baptism for him in the areas surrounding South Hill and Golborn area. On one of the census -think it may have been 1851 or 1861-he was said to be born in Calstock but we have been unable to find a birth or baptism there at all. We have a feeling he may have been born in Devon-some family rumour i think-not sure. Can anyone out there find a birth or baptism of a george gilbert to a william gilbert in or around 1821 please. I know its a hard one so i wont hold my breath but i know you are amazing on here.
thanks

Hi Frankie

I can only see one George Gilbert bc 1822 in Devon

George Radford Gilbert s/o WILLIAM Gilbert and Mary
born 25 jan 1821
christened 25 Feb 1821
The Abbey Chapel, Presbyterian, Tavistock, Devon

Have you tried under Jilbert?   In 1861 he is with his family transcribed under the name GILBERD.

Hi fizzy
Thanks for that-yes thats the correct george. We are trying to find his baptism if possible. is there anyone out there who can spot it either in Devon or Cornwall?Huh i know this is a tough one so i am not expecting any luck-so i will be amazed if anyone manages to track him down as george and william are common names. The Devon link is tenuous though-just a family rumour. On the census as i say it says born in cornwall.
