Anyone live in Goathland?
« on: Thursday 24 February 05 11:32 GMT (UK) »

I'm researching the Calvert family, Francis and Susannah, who lived with their children in Goathland.  In 1881 they lived at Summerholm Terrace and Francis, who was born in 1832, was a shoemaker.  Their children were John, Susannah and Christiana.  I know what happened to Christiana, but I'd be grateful for anyone with local knowledge to tell me whether any Calverts remain in Goathland; what church they would have attended; and whether Summerholm Terrace still exists (Ican't find it on map sites).

There is one Calvert in Goathland and one in Whitby plus several others in that area.   Go to www.bt.com then directory enquires person search and put in the name plus Goathland as the town.  Should bring them up for you.   I have only been as a tourist but it is a lovely village.

I'm researching the Calvert family, Francis and Susannah, who lived with their children in Goathland.
These are my gg grandparents. They also had George and Mary Ann. George is my g Grandfather.
I don't know where Summerholme Terrace is but I am planning to visit the area later in the year and have a look round.
Are you related to them? Couldn't see them on your family tree.

Are you aware that Goathland is where they film the TV series Heatbeat?  Not much use to you specifically for the questions you ask but I thought it might interest you (if you didn't already know what a pretty place it is)

Yeah, and what a pity that that's what it's now known for.  But I suppose it has introduced some more people to how beautiful the area is.
