Mary Ann Owens - The bravest woman I never knew
|
Hello all on the Gloucestershire boards!!
I was wondering if somebody who has access to Marshfield Parish Registers could assist me please , as I am unable to get to Gloucestershire in the near future.
I am trying to find information on the Liles family, variations given of course. I have a William Liles born c1834 in Marshfield, and according to his marriage certificate in 1853 his father was also called William. I found what I believe to be William Jnr with his father on the 1841, living in Marshfield. It appears his mothers name was Elizabeth and he had a sister called Sidonia, who I know went on to marry a Samuel Jones.
I would appreciate and welcome any information on William, Sidonia or their parents William and Elizabeth, as I do not know when or where they married.
Thankyou for reading this post, any help would be great
Regards, Reaybo M
PS I hope Gloucestershire is having better weather than Nottingham is at the moment!

Thankyou to both for the info you have given me it is greatly appreciated!! Woohoo!
However in the 1841 census, William's wife is down as Elizabeth. Could this be a second marriage?
Thankyou again for this information it is awesome

It certainly could mean a second marriage for William, although I can't immediately find a death for Kesiah or a second marriage for William to Elizabeth.
That's the trouble with Family History - you find one answer and it always raises more questions!
Could it be that the enumerator mis-heard the name?
Really need to find a death for Keziah.

She may well have misheard it, but William jnr (bapt 1833) went on to have a daughter (as shown by the 1871 Welsh census) called Heziah, wrongly transcribed of couse by anc**try. Good old anc**try!
Will do a quick google Thanks again Sue,

Just checking through my notes again, I noticed that Keziah's maiden name is HITCHINGS not Hutchings as in my previous post - sorry about that.
Still can't find a death for her.

Thankyou Sue, on further inspection regarding Keziah I found a birth in the IGI for a Keziah Hitchings born 1787 in Rodmarton, daughter of Issac and Jane.
Back to William Liles though, he appears with Elizabeth in the 1841. Elizabeth is listed before William's children but could she in fact be his sister? It might explain why you cannot find a marriage??
Just a thought, thankyou again for the help you have given me
