My Grandfather returned from WW2 saw my 13 year old Dad briefly and left, never to be seen by the family again. He had been a cabinetmaker pre-war and was in REME in the war in bomb-disposal, North Africa and Italy. He was about 35 when called up, relatively old for such dangerous work.
My Dad's now 78 and I'd love to be able to tell him what became of his Dad.
Family rumours place him in London and or Liverpool where there was a connection with a family called Vass (?).

Hi,
Do you know what date Alfred was born?
His birth was registered in June 1906
Alfred Harley  Wellington, Shropshire  6a 762
There is also a death registration for an Alfred Harley born May 6th 1906, in 1985 ,in London.
I you think this may be him i can send details by pm.
Obviously only a possibility but could have been born May and registered June. Could be another Alfred altogether.
A death certificaate would give you a few more details,
