I am new to site so hope in right place for my purpose.

A George Coles & Jane Neary married 28 May 1865 at St. Philips Church B'ham when both recorded as living at Blucher St. Any information about area/general background would be appreciated - given period/status of the couple I imagine inner city and densely populated/poor housing.

St Phillips is in the city centre, the area at that time was a typical inner city working class area.If you look at The Birmingham History Webring there are photos of the churches and the area.

Thanks - direction and comment very helpful.

From what I have gleaned St. Philips now B'ham Cathedral and very impressive at that.

Interesting how what appears to be a couple of very modest standing (my wifes great grandparents, one born in Aylesbury District, the other Northampton) would be married in such a place but probably just nearest to where lived.

Blucher St. was(is) near Holloway Head which at the time would have been on the outskirts of the town but was part of the urban sprawl taking place at the time.It came under the Parish of St.Thomas.
