Hello I am trying to locate my Grandad's grave. He died in 1981 aged 72 he lived in Ipswich, my father remembers him being buried in an area roughly half an hours drive from Ipswich in a lovely churchyard but no surrounding village his wife was Barbara Young nee PRESCOTT or PESCOTT and I believe her family are there as well. We wish to visit his grave, my father is quite old now and is struggling to remember any ideas? could someone point us in the right direction?

I'm not sure that my findings will help that much in identifying the churchyard. Albert William Young's death is registered in the December quarter of 1980 Ipswich and his birthdate is given as 21/9/1908. (The only person of that name registered in 1908 was born in Durham so don't know if that fits). He married in December qtr. 1945 Marylebone, London to a Barbara PESCOD. Barabara Pescod was born Dec.qtr. 1917 Midhurst, Sussex and other siblings are Frederick H.V. born 1913, Jack Denis b. Mar.qtr.1915, and Richard G. b.1921 all in Midhurst reg. district.
Jack Denis actually born 2/11/1914 and died Feb.2003 Ipswich.
Pescod is not a Suffolk name. However, a Gerald Gurney Pescod b.12/7/1908 (Camberwell, London) d.1986 Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk - other deaths at Bury St. Edmunds include a Doris Mary b.26./8./1909 died. July 1995, a Mary Ellen b.11/5/1918 d.1990. The births index includes some recent births in Bury St. Edmunds where the mothers maiden name is Pescod so the only Pescod's in Suffolk now seem to be in that area - whether in Bury St. Edmunds itself or in a village within the Bury St. Edmunds Registration district I have no way of knowing. There are not any Pescod's in Suffolk now in the BT phone directory but could be ex directory.
Certainly, Bury St. Edmunds is about half an hours drive from Ipswich so hopefully some of this might help jog your father's memory. If Bury St. Edmunds is not the actual place then maybe looking at a map of the villages surrounding might help. BSE's cemetery address is - The Borough Cemetery, Kings Road, Bury St. Edmunds.
Best I can do I'm afraid.

Catherine Sandys, I WILL find out where you went.

You could also contact funeral directors in Ipswich to see if they have any records of burials.

There are a few churches that would fit the description, for example Bildeston church of St Mary Magdalene is just outside of the village on higher ground.
Does your father remember if the family withdrew to a local hostelry? That might help find the village Although in the intervening years, so many of our village pubs have closed down and are now family homes.
Many of my Local History Recorders are researching the history of properties in their parishes that are now homes that have a history of being inns and pubs.
Don't forget there is a great deal of information on Simon's web site www.suffolkchurches.co.uk - he may (probably has knowing Simon) have a list of those churches outside of the village area too. You will find contact details on his website. Pat ...

I note on Genes Reunited that some called Beryl has your grandmother and her siblings listed who may know where in Suffolk family are buried. Also, the Gerald b.1908 is listed by 3 different people and he certainly died in the Bury St. Edmunds district and I feel sure he must tie in to your family somehow.
Contacting these people may reveal where the churchyard is.
