Completed:Surrey Quarter Sessions - Fairmanner
« on: Tuesday 12 May 09 16:10 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I have 2 brothers, Henry and Thomas Fairmaner/Fairmanner who were transported in 1825.
They were born in Farnham but the ship's list for Thomas mentions the quarter sessions at Southwark, "special session of goal delivery"
The date is given as 27 Dec 1824, for both.
If any can look up the data from the sessions, I would be very interested to see what comes up.
I can't see how to attached the image of the ships list, am I missing something?

Cheers,
     Dave

Hi Dave

The records for the Surrey quarter sessions will be held at the Surrey History Centre

http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/surreyhistoryservice

Quarter sessions records aren't going to hold a great deal of family history information though they should contain ages and information on the crime and where it took place. The gaol deliveries would be easier to access if they have survived and as well as the information already stated they should also give an indication of whether they had any previous convictions.

Thanks,
I'm not expecting much family history - I know who they were, but I was interested in what they had done, as it was "life" I assumed it was a bit more than stealing a loaf of bread!.
I've been to Woking once before, and it's a bit of a trek from here especially if the information doesn't turn out to be there.
I might come up with some more Surrey stuff and that will make it worthwhile.

Cheers,

Hi Dave

I would email an enquiry to them and find out what they hold and how much a photocopy of the relevant goal delivery would be.

Yes I have looked up one case from Quarter sessions at Woking (my relative was robbed)

The cases are mostly just one sheet, though there is some looking up in indexes to find the right page
