Double Junction Row Cramlington
« on: Monday 08 June 09 06:25 UTC (UK) »

i have found my gt grandparents on the 1911 census in cramlington, both worked at a brick factory,

Francis Ellen Langman lived at 6 Double Junction Row Cramlington and was a brick factory girl

Thomas John Williams lived at 18 East Wood Row Cramlington and was a brick factory engineman

does anyone know where these 2 streets are and where abouts the brick factory was in cramlington or surrounding area?

I live in the cramlington area and those streets are not here today and i cant find a map to locate them

thankyou lou

Hi lou,
most likely your local library would have some old maps and could help... worth asking them as you are on the spot.

Hi Lou

I think you may find a map here http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP. If you enter the post code NE23 6XQ and choose the 1960 1969 map you should be able to see Double Junction just to the east. It is actually East Cramlington.

 lou,

From the maps Gary is directing you to, you will notice that there were two brickworks, one to the east of Double and Single Junction Rows, and one to the west ( just east of the old Cramlington Waggonway, today the B1505 , with A189-the Spine Rd, alongside it.)

Many brickworks were alongside a coal pit- plenty of clay etc left over from the "sinking" of the pit, and plenty of coal for ovens etc.

Hello Mrs Louis,  I read your message and was amazed to see my Grandparents (Frances Langman and Thomas Williams) on your question.  I am Connie Baxter (nee Williams) I am the daughter of their eldest son Thomas Williams, I was born and brought up in Cramlington.  I have done a lot of my family tree.  I have got back to the 1700's with the Langman/Hendy's but not very far with the Williams's.  My cousin David Nicholson (Irene Williams's son) has done a lot too, he and his wife Helen went to the village in Wales where our Grandfather was born but didn't get very far.  I'd love to know who you are, and what relation you are to me.  I suspect by your name you are a member of my aunt Ella's family and I can remember my uncle Louis from when I was young.  I'd love to hear from you.
