Hi Everyone
I am trying to find out more about Sarah Jane Miles. I believe she was born in
Tredegar around 1865, and married Thomas Board in Cardiff in 1888. Her father was, I think, William Miles born around 1835 in Ebbw Vale. Her mother seems to have also been Sarah but I have no further details.
This is all rather vague, but I would appreciate any more information which may be out there somewhere!

Getting her marriage cert would confirm her fathers name and give his occupation.
Then you would be more certain to be looking for the correct family further back
Do you have her on any censuses after her marriage? What year and place of birth does she give then?

I agree with lizdb about getting the marriage cert. There's more than one Sarah Jane Miles around and the one married to Thomas Board gives a younger age on her census entries and 2 different places of birth.

There is a Sarah Jane Miles registered dec qtr 1865 Bedwelty who is on the 1871 census with father William & mother Sarah and is born Ebbw Vale, but the one married to Thomas seems to be a few years younger.

Thank you both. I shall be sending for the marriage certificate as suggested. Just to confuse matters even further, the 1911 census gives her place of birth as Ynysddu, Glamorgan. The plot thickens!

There is a public tree on Ancestry member called roderick 10 m who has a Sarah Jane Miles born 1865 Stable Row, Parents-William Miles b-1835 Ebbw Vale and Sarah Protheroe however she married William Henry Lingard so isnt your Sarah.
So def think you need marriage cert

if her father is a William, this family looks a possible given the mixture of Risca, Caerphilly & Wyndham Rd

Hello Osprey
Marriage certificate arrived (10.11.1888) with father William Edmund, profession accountant. Sarah's age is 21 years so it all appears to tie in with the 1881 census as detailed in your last post, except for the ages!

Ages are sometimes out on the census .The 1881 Osprey found looks the right one.What address did Sarah have on her marriage cert?

If William was born in 1853, and if Sarah was 21 in 1888, that makes William 14 when she was born!

Williams age ties in with 1871 and 1881 census so maybe Sarahs age on 1881 census is right and her age on marriage cert wrong ? Possibly made herself 21yrs and of legal age at that time to marry without parental consent when she was in fact 17 yrs? A possibility have alot of marriage certs in my family with ages that were not always correct? .Strange if there are two William Edmund Miles in the same area both with same profession?
