Hi. This is my first post on the forum and I'm impressed with what I've read so far.

I'm looking for any information on my g-g-grandmother Catherine Gauge who came from Co. Donegal..I think somewhere close to the border with Londonderry. She was born abt 1864 and her father's name was Thomas. I believe her mother's name was Bridget (McGlinchey). Catherine married John Hamilton in 1890 at 2nd Presbyterian Church, Glendermott, Co L'derry. I can find no other information about Catherine or her family.

If anyone could help I'd be very grateful.

Welcome to Rootschat. Gauge isn't a common surname and there are only 10 of them listed in indexes to civil registrations but there's always the possibilty that the surname sometimes had other spellings.

You could also check LDS site for submitted and extracted records:

1911 census for Co. Donegal just came online recently (1911 will be added and then 1901 for all Ireland as well).

Thank you for the welcome aghadowey and also for the links.

The pilot.familysearch.org link brought up 2 findings for Catherine Gauge...and it seems that John Hamilton might have been her 2nd marriage. I will check the other 2 sites you've given me as well. How can I read the records on the pilot.familysearch.org site? I don't live in N.Ireland anymore so can't do this personally.

you can order a research cert by post from the GRO - see : www.groireland.ie
this will be a scan/photocopy of the register

the details they require are the record type (e.g. Birth), name, year/quarter, registration district, volume & page number

(early records dont require a quarter)

If she was indeed marriage twice her name at the time of the 1st marriage would have been her maiden name and for the 2nd marriage the surname in the index should be the name she was using at the time of that marriage (surname of her 1st husband).
