« on: Monday 08 June 09 20:08 UTC (UK) »

Please help me find any additional information on this Marriage found on IGI

William Stevenson and Jean McIntosh 8th August 1831 at Dundee Angus

It may confirm William born in England and hopefully parents of both/

Many thanks for reading this.

Downloaded the OPR.  A reasonably clear entry but with little information.

The top of the page reads July 1831.  There are 3 basic columns headed 'Contracted' 'Parties' 'Married'.  The couple above were contracted on 19 July and married 08 Aug.

Line one reads "William Stivenson wright & Jean McIntosh both this parish"
Line two "daughter of Neil McIntosh Huh??"

Obviously witten when ink was in short supply....  the ???s stand for the occupation of the father.  If you pm me your e-mail address, I'll forward it to  you.

As you're aware the IGI has him down as Stivenson as does the OPR.

Regards,   Steve  Smiley

www.freecen.org on the 1841 census, has only one Stivenson family on it - looks possibly right as husband William and wife Jean, but has William born in Scotland

So off back to SP and downloaded Jeans death entry - died 10 March 1875 in Dundee.  Possibly her and has a son William as witness.

Good spot ev.

Must admit late at night I didn't look for Stevensons.  The Jean McIntosh who dies in 1875 above has a father Neil McIntosh and she was married to a William Stevenson, that's why I assumed it was the one married in 1831.

As usual census records would have to be checked for any suspected parties.

A search of the  IGI and Scotlands People  for children born to a couple of that name i or e, or a Mc/Mac surname between 1830 to 1850 only  comes up with only the one which seems to tie in with your find ev.  No male child for that name on the census with the other couple.

JAMES STIVENSON B: 04 FEB 1840   Ch: 30 APR 1840 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
