Hi there
Thanks to the 1911 I have found another sibling "Idwen Jones" a daughter born circa 1902. Can't see a birth entry in the name of Idwen anywhere but there are several Ceridwen. Is it a girls name? If so what do any Welsh speakers think - might Idwen have been registered as Ceridwen?
hope someone can help Heather

Hi Heather
Not sure about this. In my experience the diminutive of Ceridwen is Ceri. I can't think of any other girls names that would fit with Idwen, though

Where does it say that she was born?
Do all of the others showing on the birth registrations show up on the census or deaths or is there one missing?

Hi Heather, Idwen is a girl's name in its own right, and unabbreviated; it would not, as Gadget surmises, come from Ceridwen. You will find plenty of instances (horses, dogs and people) by googling. Pinot

Don't tthink I surmised - I was answering Heather's question about Ceridwen - that the only diminutive that I've come across was Ceri.
Can you give some links to Idwen - I couldn't find it on any of the Welsh Girls' Names listings. No matches when I google for it except for lots of Japanese sites

Thanks Gadget I'm going to search the indexes 1901-1905. Her father was in Glamorgan in 1901 perhaps she was born down there or somewhere in between and somehow never got registered . My auntie thinks that the family called Idwen by another name and my uncle (age 89) is trying to remember what it was
Heather
PS It looks like an Idwen Jones married a Hugh R Jones in 1930 in Bangor.....
