Waddel / McKee marriage 1846 Greyabbey
« on: Tuesday 09 June 09 11:47 UTC (UK) »

William Waddel (or Waddle) and Ann McKee (or McKie) were married 21st November 1846 in the first Presbyterian meeting house in Greyabbey.
Both of them resided in Greyabbey.

William was full age. His father was Andrew Waddel, a Weaver, and his mother was Mary Clarke.

Ann was 18. Her father was William McKee, a labourer,  and her mother was Agnes Harrison.

If any kind reader can help me to find the baptism or marriage of any of the parents or siblings of William Waddel and Ann McKee I will be very grateful.

Thanks.

Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages in Ireland began 1845 (Catholic marriages didn't begin until 1864) so for earlier dates you need to search for church records (if they exist).
Ros Davies Co. Down website has lots of information and it would be worth checking Surnames, etc. there if you haven't done so already.

Thank you Aghadowey.

I have the marriage cert. for William and Ann and now I hope to find out something about their parents, and if they had any siblings.

I know that William and Ann moved to Mauchline in Ayrshire about 1851/2 and Ann died there in 1861.
William remarried in December 1862.

I got the names of their mothers from the death cert of Ann and the second marriage cert of William in Mauchline.

Irish records don't have as much detail as Scottish ones but since the information you are looking for is before civil registration you'll need to search for church records (if they exist).

Thanks again Aghadowey,
I hope to make a trip to Greyabbey soon and may be lucky with the church there if they allow the public to see the records.
