Need Help With Finding a Grave
« on: Thursday 23 July 09 08:32 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help ?!? Grin

Do you know what churches are around New Milton ?
I’m looking for a friend’s family member who was killed in 1943 by a bomb that hit their house.
Sadly it was a child who died, his mother was also hurt and was in hospital for quite a while. His father wasn't around at the time either - he was a Royal engineer,  and we think that they were divorced at the time.

We are really unsure of where he could be buried, the details we have(luckily from a death certificate)  -

Reg district New Forest
Sub District Lymington
County of Southampton
Brian Eric Holloway  age 6
Died 22nd Jan 1943
Where died - Mae Villa, Vincent Rd, Milton (New Milton ?) Hampshire
He was 6 years old.
Father - William A Holloway Sergeant No 1864034 Royal Engineers.
Cause of Death - Due to War Operations
Signature, descipton of informant -
F.J Beeching, Town Clerk, Lymington Town Council.
Registered on the 28th Jan 1943
Entry 242 in the registry

As you can see from the above it was registered by a Town Clerk, so we are a bit stuck as to where he could be and they is nobody in the family who knows.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Kind regards,
Emma.

He is buried in Lymington Municipal Cemetery.

Also killed on the same day at the same address were the Morin family, mother and three daughters.

Hi
the Lymington Municipal Cemetery is known as Highfield Cemetery, I have spent many hours searching there. I find it best to contact the Lymington Council Cemetery officer via the Lymington council site who has been brilliant in finding graves for me and sending by email a grave plot plan which makes searching easier.
By the way I actually live within a 100 yards of the houses that were bombed, you can tell which they were by the fact that they are more 'modern' than the surrounding houses !

Hi,

Thanks for that, after some digging we found that he is actually burried in New Milton !

My friend is going to visit his grave on Monday and she also wants to see the houses, what numbers are they ? - just makes it alittle easier for her to find.

Thanks for your help,

Regards,

I am not sure of the numbers but if you turn off the main Gore road into Vincent Road they are about half way up on the right hand side. They are a little different in style from the rest of the houses, a bit more modern and they have a whitewash covering. I will look for the numbers when I go home tonight and let you know
