Ketton parish records- STANGER *COMPLETED*
« on: Tuesday 09 June 09 13:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
My first ancestor from Rutland is John Stanger who appears in census records born c1796 in Ketton, Rutland. He later married Miriam (surname unknown), possibly also in Ketton. By 1841 he was living in Lincolnshire and died there in 1873.
Any help offered with finding his baptism would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oh my goodness!!!!! This is pure gold. You have moved my tree along several steps in just a few lines. Thank you very much indeed.  It is wonderful to find an ancestor who a) was baptised where he said he was b) had parents who were locals and c) had the decency to get himself recorded for posterity.

Where did you find the Stanger/Jeffrey marriage?

Also, you say

"James also had a sister ANN, bapt June 17,1792, buried September 10,1792." I think you mean John had a sister Ann?

1] Yes I did mean John not James.2] The clue is in the 1851 census. John Stanger is living in Swineshead,Lincs with his wife Miriam and her brother Robert Jeffrey,so I knew her maiden name was Jeffrey. Looked  up marriage for one Miriam Jeffrey on the I.G.I. and there it was. If there is anything else I can help you with let us know.

Ah. You can tell that I am a novice.
I had the 1851 census clue you describe but could not decide whether Robert Jeffrey (brother) meant he was John's wife's brother or John's sister's husband. Since there was uncertainty, I searched for the marriage of John Stanger, and didn't find it because, of course, he is shown as John Stringer marrying Miriam JEFFERY. This is on Family search.org. I don't know how it shows in the microfiche or CD IGI. But I believe there can be differences.
Lesson learnt, thank you.
