William Henry Turner - the Grandfather I never met
|
Early this year, when the the snow was on the ground and temperatures were somewhat cooler than at present, I'd posted a topic entitled " Westgate St., Ipswich, 1891" in my seach for my gt.grandma; the notorious Annie ! A couple of weeks ago, while on holiday, I took the opportunity to visit the Suffolk Records Office. I'd like to thank the staff at SRO for all their help in finding both my gt.uncle and his wife's last resting place, The Bedwell's graves ( Constance and Frank's adoptive parents) and loads and loads of other information. So, thanks to the SRO staff - you were brilliant !!!!!!
Regards, David.

Hello David,
I often call in at the Suffolk Record Office in Ipswich on my way home from the Suffolk Local History Council office - might have almost bumped into you
Glad you were able to find some information, the staff at Ipswich are brilliant, they will always try to help and usually succeed in finding just what you are looking for
By the way, yesterday my village made the news on local TV and the newspapers recorded the fact that we had 2 to 3 inches of hail stones on Sunday between 5 and 6 pm ! So although the snow was on the ground when the 'Westgate Street' thread was active - this time it was hail in south Suffolk! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8089268.stm
By the way did you go into the town centre? Debenhams store is on the site of what was Footmans store.
Pat ...

Hi David - nice to see you back in 'Suffolk' again! Strangely, I thought of Annie earlier today when I noticed on the military boards a query about the Second Boer War and once again I wondered if it was possible to find out the truth about whether or not Pte Astill was the father of her children. But I suppose we'll never know.
And Hi again, Pat - wish I was closer to the SRO. My daughter goes to uni in September so after she has settled, I aim to make a stately progress over the Suffolk to check out the family graves at Rattlesden & Brettenham and hopefully get a bit of time in the SRO. Regards, Greensleeves

The SRO are brilliant but I think that I will now lock this post before we all get into trouble! Tribute threads are discouraged on the county boards.
