I am trying to find Thomas sterne's father on his marriage certificate it says father Richard Deceased he married 1885. search turned up 2 Richard's see below. Problem is how can I find the richt one?

I dont think there's any way to be sure without checking the details on the certs..

you could order the two promising marriage certs and see if the bride's maiden name matches the mothers maiden name on Thomas' birth cert.

as for the two death records the clues will be residence and possibly informant - which may be wife or other family member

update .... it looks like the two marriages you found are included in IGI

   Richard Sterne / Margaret Bickford
      30 Jun 1845   Ballycanew, Wexford  - 0079

   Richard Sterne    / Sarah Callwell
       12 Sep 1846    Ballycanew, Wexford - 0093

the page  reference numbers match up in each case. They are extracted records

As both marriages were  in the same town it does not really narrow thing down for you - but maybe gives some ideas for Thomas' mother... if the location fits
