Hi Cassie

You've placed this request on the lookup board. Since London is a city with millions and millions of people your request needs to be quite specific. What records are you hoping other Rootschatters might be able to look up for you.

Hi Cassie

No need to be sorry just trying to help. You really need to be more specific to enable someone to do a look up for you. London gradually ate up Middlesex. Edgware would have been part of the county of Middlesex, Edgeware Road was a road in central London. London by 1931 had a population of over 8 million people so very easy for any invidual to be swallowed up into it.

Was Thomas married? Does anyone in your extended family remember anything further about him?

He would need grounds for divorce in an English court and papers would need to be served on his wife. It seems more likely she had the grounds for divorce if he deserted her and his chldren.

If he went to London in the circumstances you described then it would seem he wasn't anxious for any of his family to find him which makes searching for him 80 years later all the harder. He obviously didn't want to be found which is probably why he chose London in the first place. If he stayed in England you could try death registrations for any likely Thomas O'Donnells of the right age. Findmypast website holds the General Registry of Deaths.

It isn't a particularly unusual name so there might be quite a few. You could also put a tree for him on Genesreunited. If he had a further family they might be searching for his origins.

Four Thomas O'Donnells died while serving in the Second World War. One a sapper in the Royal Engineers - 'age unknown' which is unusual.

However if four Thomas O'Donnells died in the Second World War serving in the British forces then a lot more must have served and survived.
