Suggestions please
« on: Wednesday 10 June 09 08:53 UTC (UK) »

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for information about an inquest held at Bath on 18 July 1870 and any subsequent newspaper coverage of the same death.

Anyone know if inquest information or coronor's reports would be still available from that time?

Any suggestions re. people, places or sites to check, ask or email would be most welcome.

Thanks

Di

Newspapers are probably your best bet, as coroners records are usually
destroyed after 15 years. A full list of existing records is given in "Coroners'
Records in England & Wales" published by the Federation of Family History
Societies. The local Record Office will know if any are available.

Thanks Stan,

I'll try the records office and see what the FFHS has to say as well.

Hullo Di, Another source of info could be the Local Studies Library near where the death occurred. They'd probably do a lookkup of local newspapers and obits as you have an exact date

This is where the Gale on-line newspapers would help.......all the local Bath & Bristol newspapers, as I recall, were in this database - sadly, it is not generally available anymore unless you belong to a library or other organisation which has a subscription Sad     Good luck Smiley

Thanks for the suggestion WexDor,

I do have access to Gale via my state library and unfortunately I can't find a darn thing about the death or inquest in there.

I shall keep looking though  Grin

Thanks
