Help with a loose end..
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 21:32 UTC (UK) »

Hello,
Not sure where to turn with this one...cant find the death certificates for the couple below. Searched Ancestry, Australia (Victoria) records and the Leics. records office (in truth, I didnt have as much time as I wanted and it was my first visit to such a place). I know that the couple were born in UK, they met, married, had 2 children in Melbourne, Australia before returning to the UK.

Any suggestions of how to find out where they went next or how to find their death records?

1901 England Census shows:
Name: John Steven Hatton  -  Age: 35  - Estimated Birth Year: abt 1866
County/Island: Leicestershire
Spouse:  Sophia (born Liverpool)
Residence:  1901 - city, Leicestershire, England

Thanks in advance for any help offered with this.

Greeting’s & welcome….Eliza.

Sorry..... No Burials showed up for City or County of Leicestershire. up to 1990.

Worth asking the Council who have sole rights on details for Gilroes Cemetery / Crematorium.

All cemetery and crematorium matters are dealt with at our central office

There is also a death registered in the last quarter of 1914, at Leicester, for a Sophia Hatton aged 49, which would fit mathematically. The GRO reference is 7a 206 - www.freebmd.org.uk/

Based upon the 1911 census index and the birth registrations index, it would appear that the couple had the following additional children between 1901 and 1911 ....

Hilda Amelia 1901
Alexander Steven 1906
Walter Frederick 1909

Dear all,

Wow, thank you very much for your help with this. I wish I had come here earlier, I started my research on this lot in 2004....        :-|

The other family members match perfectly. Marvellous.
