To solve this it is essential to go to basics to find any info that will help looking at the various census. To that end the birth cert will give you her parent's names & possibly an address. Just because a birth reg. entry states Edmonton it does not mean she was born in Edmonton itself. The Reg district of Edmonton covers a very large area, I myself was born in Tottenham but my birt cert. reads district Edmonton, sub district Tottenham.
Reg District Edmonton, sub districts.....Cheshunt, Enfield, Hornsey, Tottenham, Waltham Abbey. adjoining disricts Barnet, Epping, Hackney, Hatfield, Islington, Pancras, West ham.
Birth Lottie May Mitchell June ¼ 1896 Edmonton 3a 467

Hi
I was going to say what Mel said about the areas mentioned on birth certificates. They also take in other small villages around the area and put them under one borough. If you find out that her parents were called John and Ellen, I did find them on the 1901 census but she is mentioned as May aged 3 and she has a sister called Charlotte aged 1. Maybe Charlotte died and they called her Lottie again as it would have been a mouthful to be calling out for Charlotte and Lottie at the same time. If it is your Lottie then her parents were both born in Norfolk and at the time of the 01C were living in Tottenham which is next door to Edmonton. Hope this is your Lottie regards Sandymc
