William Abbey
« on: Wednesday 10 June 09 14:49 UTC (UK) »

On the 1911 census William Abbey aged 61 years gives his place of birth as:-

Lincolnshire Frampton Teme or Leme.

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Have been unable to find William prior to the 1881 census.

Thanks Susan

This might help

What place of birth does he give in the other census you have found?  Can you give the references?   Spouse?  Children?

I have tried on Roots before to see if anyone can find William prior to the 1881.
On that census he gives his place of birth as Wardnewton, Yorks, wife Sarah born Kilham, Yorks. Children William 9, Robert 6 and Walter 3 all bn W/Hartlepool.
1891 census he gives place of birth as Lincoln and Sarah as Middlesborough. Children William 19, Robert 16, Mary Jane 9, Arthur 5 and Ada 3 all born W/Hartlepool.
1901 census he gves place of birth Lincs, Kilham and Sarah is given as Framton(sic) Yorks.

Sarah was born in Kilham......verified by other means but William eludes me. However I now am pretty sure he was born at Frampton, Lincs as he himself filled in the 1911 census.

There is a marriage at Horncastle Weslyn for an Edward Aby to Maria Dawson 8/7/1849. (William's father Edward fron his marriage cert). As none of the children of William and Sarah were baptised in Stranton church I wonder? Even if I get that marriage cert it will not tell me if they are William's parents.

In 1861 yet to see the whole entry there is a William Aby aged 9 at Glanford Brigg. His birth reg June 1852 G/Brigg 7a 570.

There is also a death for an Edward Abey in Mar qtr 1851 reg Horncastle 14 300/309.

Think I need to try and follow these up, any suggestions most welcome and thanks for your help so far.

Well that eliminates that one.!!!

Can you find Edward Aby (various spellings) and Maria (nee Dawson) in 1851?

Is of course the proverbial brick wall with William.

Thanks for the info on the 1861, Susan

Thanks to all for taking the trouble with Edward and Maria.

At a total loss once again other than to look at the burials for all the Edward Aby and all spellings from I guess about 1849 onwards.

I can thanks to Rosie at least eliminate the one for 1851 being aged 16 years.

Thanks again, Susan
