I was told my great grandmother, Annie Niven Todd was an only child. On the 1881 census she is with her parents Thomas Todd and Margaret (Spence), both b Scotland, and TWO siblings. Thomas Jnr b c 1865 Marylebone, middx and Isabella Niven todd b c 1867 Marylebone. Isabella married, had a child and died, her husband re-marrying, which explains her, but I have not been able to trace Thomas Jnr any further. I was given some information relating to the Tod family (for some reason my Todds added an extra D) and it said Thomas became Mayor of Gisborne, NZ.....now that could explain him, EXCEPT that I e-mailed Gisborne Council and there was never a Tod/d of any description who was mayor.
As Annie was deemed to have been an only child...what happened to Thomas? Did he die, marry the wrong person and was cut off from the family?? I can't trace any death or marriage for him...and I'm running out of ideas.
Has anyone got any suggestions? Can anyone find his death/marriage? In 1881 he was a Drapers assistant. His Dad was a retired draper.
