Thomas Todd, Marylebone, Middx Completed
« on: Friday 22 June 07 13:25 UTC (UK) »

I was told my great grandmother, Annie Niven Todd  was an only child. On the 1881 census she is with her parents Thomas Todd and Margaret (Spence), both b Scotland, and TWO siblings. Shocked Thomas Jnr b c 1865 Marylebone, middx and Isabella Niven todd b c 1867 Marylebone. Isabella married, had a child and died, her husband re-marrying, which explains her, but I have not been able to trace Thomas Jnr any further. Angry I was given some information relating to the Tod family (for some reason my Todds added an extra D) and it said Thomas became Mayor of Gisborne, NZ.....now that could explain him, EXCEPT that I e-mailed Gisborne Council and there was never a Tod/d of any description who was mayor.

As Annie was deemed to have been an only child...what happened to Thomas? Did he die, marry the wrong person and was cut off from the family?? I can't trace any death or marriage for him...and I'm running out of ideas.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Can anyone find his death/marriage? In 1881 he was a Drapers assistant. His Dad was a retired draper.

Not mayor, deputy mayor:

However, this does not appear to be your Thomas - it says he had a brother John and sister in law Margaret.

Jorose,
Thanks for the information, much appreciated. There are two different branches of the Tod/d family that went to NZ, one lot were in Gisborne, so the Thomas you found probably belongs to them. I'll check it out. Which means that my Thomas Todd probably stayed here.....so where is he beyond 1881?

Can anyone help....please!!

Just really a follow up HELP!!!!

Thomas Todd b c1864 Marylebone, Middx is on the 1881 census at home with his family, I can't trace him beyond 1881. He's not with the family in 1891, and I have looked at the index for the 1901 census and can't trace him either. The only one that matches isn't him, also had a quick look at 1911 and he's not their either.

Did he die?...can't trace him on FreeBMD.

Does anyone have any ideas where he might have gone/where I can look/where I should go next?

Hi Beverley

It might be a good idea if you start a new topic back on London & Middlesex look-up requests, ask your questions, let everyone know what you know (or don't) and then put a link to this topic.

This topic is marked completed and has moved of the active board and your updated request may not get noticed.
