Hello Irene,
Below are the 1841. census for the Smiths,
St. Quivox, Wallacetown, Ayr. Address, Elba Street,
Smith John, M. age 25 years, Agricultural Labourer, born Outside Census County, Smith Jennet, F. age 26 years, born Outside Census County, Smith Lettia, F. age 8 years, born Ayrshire, Smith John, M. age 6 years, born Ayrshire, Smith James, M. age 4 years, born Ayrshire, Smith Mary, F. age 2 years, born Ayrshire, Smith Joseph, M. age 5 m. born Ayrshire.
The only thing wrong here is where born for parents Outside Census County, in this case this means Outside Ayrshire, when in other census reports they are both born in Ayrshire.
The second Smith, family i was telling you about are.
St. Quivox, Wallacetown, Ayr, Address, Elba Street,
Smith James, M. age 35 years, Weaver, born Ireland, Smith Mary, F. age 35 years, born Ireland, Smith James, M. age 15 years, Weaver, born Ayrshire, Smith Lettia, F. age 8 years, born Ayrshire, Smith John, M. age 10 years, born Ayrshire, Smith Mary, F. age 5 years, born Ayrshire, Smith William, M. age 3 years, born Ayrshire, Smith Joseph, M. age 8 m. born Ayrshire.
When you think both these Smith's, are married to Nimmo's, and you look at the names of their children, they are vitually all the same first names, then you look at the ages of Lettia's, they are virtually the same year, and the two Joseph's, are similar, and that the two families live in the same street, then you have to think they are related.
I certainly think Janet Nimmo, and Mary Nimmo, are sisters.
Regards, Jonn.

Hello Irene,
Genealogy, is a strange hobby, i have been involved in this for over forty years, take the strange coincedences, i was reading a couple of your posts.
First your Sweenies, lived in Cross Street, ( as Jean, in a earlier post says Cross, is written as Crofs ) well thats where my Paternal family lived from 1841.
There name Morgan, i see you are looking for one.
My mother was born in Neilston, is that not where your Sweenies, ended up.
Regards, Jonn.

John
Sorry meant to add this to my last message - any ideas about the Sweenies. Letitia and Myles Sweenie were married in Whittletts in 1856. I think he died young, about 40.

Hello Irene,
The Sweenies, it looks like they came into Scotland, sometime after the 1851. census and the year Miles, married Letitia, they are not anywhere in Ayrshire, in 1851.
It also looks like only Miles, and his younger brother Ralph, came over from Ireland.
Letitia Smith's, mother Janet Nimmo Smith, died in Lugar, Auchinleck, Ayr, widow, of John Smith, 03/Jan/1892, at 67 Walkers Row, thats the address she was living at in 1881. with her son Joseph, in the census i provided earlier, Joseph, registered her death and he made his mark x. which meant he could not read or write, not uncommon back then, he also got her age wrong out by ten years, she was 66 years old on death certificate when she should have been 77 years old.
On the death certificate her parents were given as James Nimmo, Horse Dealer, deceased, and Letitia Benston, deceased.
I also gave you a birth which i thought was Janet Nimmo's, 1815. St Quivox, to parents James Nimmo, and Letta Berger, i still think this was the correct birth and whoever wrote the name Berger, got it mixed up again the parents most likely could neither read or write and both being Irish, whoever wrote it down was mistaken by their Irish, accent.
To connect the two Nimmo's, Janet, and Mary, as sisters i think is quite straight forward, Mary Nimmo, who married James Smith, i told you they had a daughter Letitia, well her birth is thus, Laticia Benson Smith, born 06/Nov/1832. St Quivox, Ayr to parents James Smith, and Mary Nimmo, i think this confirms that Mary, and Janet Nimmo, were sisters.
Hope you understand all this,
Regards, Jonn.
