My Ancestors were married on 18th May 1855 at "Parish of Drunmore, Co Tyrone, Ireland" this is quoted on the Scottish birth certificates of a few of their children.
From what I can make out from investigating on the web, such a parish doesn't exist. I suspect it was a problem with the fact the couple were illiterate and the difference in accent. I believe that it is probably the Parish of Dromore. But I'm hoping that people who are familiar with the area would have a better idea.
The spelling of their names varies so much that I've not been able to trace the family in Ireland. According to the records in Scotland he was Michael McKune (son of Micheal McKune and Mary McLachlan), on the 1861 census his surname is McKone, 1871 McEwen, 1881 & 1891 McKune. All the birth, marriage and death records in Scotland have the family listed as McKune. She was Anne McChrystal (daughter of William McChrystal-general labourer- and Ellen Gillogy). Subequent generations of the family use her maiden name as a middle name for their children, it is sometimes used without the Mc, or without the H (Crystal).
I was wondering if anyone had access to the actual parish record they could check it for me for the 18th May 1855 to see how their names are written on the original record, that may help me trace the family in Ireland.
