Charlotte Ann JACQUES born 1835 in Falmouth
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 13:41 UTC (UK) »

My partner's ancestor was Charlotte Ann Jacques who was born in Falmouth about 1835. She married Alfred Rashleigh in Falmouth in 1853.

In 1881 at Richmond Walk 8 Bakers Place, Stoke Damerel, Devon lived:

- Charlotte A. RASHLEIGH, Head, W, 46, b.Falmouth, Cornwall, No Occupation
- Alfred RASHLEIGH, Son, U, 19, b.Devonport, Devon, Labourer In Saw Mills
- John RASHLEIGH, Son, 11, b.Devonport, Devon, Scholar

Charlotte Ann Jacques was supposed to have been from a French Huguenot family.

I can find no record of her birth in the Falmouth area around 1835. Can anyone please help?

The IGI has an extracted marriage

Samuel Jacques (father Joseph Jagues) to Charlotte Stephens (father William Stephens)
31 May 1838 Budock, Cornwall

IF (and it's really just a guess) this is them then maybe Charlotte Ann was born a Stephens?

Hi sgrollitt,

This is the most likely I can spot in 1841

HO107/154/4 Folio 27 Page 9
Webber St
Falmouth

JAKES Charlotte 30 Y
JAKES Mary 14 Y
JAKES Charlotte 7 Y

This is your family in 1851

HO107/1911 Folio 222 Page 20
Webber St
Exeter
Devon

JAQUES Samuel Head 55 Mar b London Sailor
JAQUES Charlotte Wife 45 Mar b Redruth
JAQUES Charlotte Dau 18 Unm b Falmouth

maybe

Charlotte STEVENS 15 July 1832 Budock mother Charlotte

Mary Thomasine JAQUES 10 July 1827 Redruth St Uny parents Samuel and Mary

Samuel JACKS = Mary STEPHENS 15 Apr 1821 Falmouth

John Henry JAKES 20 Mar 1825 Redruth St Uny parents Samuel and Mary
Charlotte Anne JAKES 1 Nov 1829 Redruth St Uny parents Samuel and Mary

Death

Mary JACQUES Dec 1/4 1837 Falmouth 9 43

Charlotte STEVENS 19 Apr 1807 Redruth St Uny parents William and Frances

William STEPHENS sojourner = Frances DAVEY 25 Jun 1792 Redruth

If this is all the same family I wondered if Samuel may have married his deceased wifes sister but I see no Mary baptised to this couple.
