Hi
Could the name of Sparkes be a maiden name of one of his female forbears??

When I was still working in schools in this area, Sparkes was not uncommon. So I go with Karenlee on this, probably a surname of one of the females on either parents side of the family. (More recently it is a nickname for an electrician).

Hi
I also think it might be a surname of a female ancestor. You may have to dig back a long way though- I had to go back to a 1625 marriage before finding out where Wandell as a first name came from in my family!
Found this on National Archives site which at least gives you his parents
Held at Suffolk Record Office, Bury St Edmunds Branch
A copy probate of will of Samuel Simkin of Sudbury, written 24 Feb 1837 proved. 8 Mar 1843 ref EE 501/11/108
Contents: To wife Elizabeth, his house, furniture and effects during life, then to children Sparks, John, William and Mary Simkin and Elizabeth Ling Executors: son-in-law William Ling, sons Sparks and John

Thank you Janan, you have given me an idea
1844 White's
Market Hill, Sudbury perfumer and hair dresser Wm. Simkin
North Street, Sudbury Ironmonger Spark Simkin
Kimberley, do have a look on www.sudburysuffolk.co.uk/photoarchive to see if any photographs in case following generations of the family continued into the age of photographs? At least you can get an idea of North Street, main shopping street and Market Hill - used to be the main shopping street, and it is where the market is held every Thursday and Saturday. Today the Market Hill has many shops, but even more banks and estate agents.

Sometimes a family will spark your interest (pun not intended ) - I often go scurrying off looking at non-direct lines (or completely unrelated) and you never know the information may turn out to be of use to a direct descendant.
St Mary's Whitechapel will be the one in East London - perhaps Sparks was an apprentice so not officially allowed to marry??
