I am trying to find family connections for Esther Wiltshire born 1864, Rotherhide, Surry.  Her father was Benjamin Wiltshire, her mother Catherine Clark.  Esther married Alfred Martin in 1886.  Fingers crossed,  Anne

Are you wanting to 'find family connections' as in research her family (find them in censuses, see what siblings she had, what children, go back further etc etc) - happy to help with look ups.

or are you literally meaning you want to find and link up with any living people who are descended from her, who happen to be on Rootschat? sites like Genereunited are more for that sort of request, I believe.

Hi.  It's a friend who lives in New Zealand.  She has tried a few sites but no luck.  I thought I would try here as I might just be lucky and find a link to living family members.

Hi Anne

The censuses show Esther's birthplace as Deptford Kent and her birth year circa 1866. This maybe her birth registration.

Births Sep 1865 
WILTSHIRE  Esther    Greenwich  1d 633


Though London was encroaching, officially in 1865 Deptford was in the county of Kent.

Esther's parents and older siblings were born in Rotherhithe.

The advice given previously is sound. There are four people expressing an interest in Esther's father Benjamin on the website previously mentioned and one on another subscription website where people put their trees. Rootschat is indexed by Google so anyone searching for Rotherhithe Surrey (but it has to be spelt correctly) Wiltshires and using Google will eventually pick up this topic but it is quicker to be proactive and register an interest on those types of websites which have peoples' trees.

Thanks Valda.  I will pass it on to Wyn in NZ.  Someone did reply to a message she left on ancestry a few years ago, but she cannot contact him.  He was ianjones32.  I thought if I posted on various sites I am on, someone related may spot it.  I have found connections from the most unlikely places.  Looking for family can be frustrating but worth it all when the connection is made.  Anne

Personally I prefer to research my family, from censuses, BMD records, Directories, Wills, electoral rolls etc etc etc going forward with various branches in much the same way as going back - all part of the tree, and have several lines down to the present day.
If I happen to come across someone else who is rersearching the same, or happen to meet with one of the actual people, it is a bonus.  But personally I wouldnt try to find the real people first (assunming they have an interest in Family history) and then slot them into the tree!

But others I know prefer a different approach - I'm not knocking your friend for doing this - just sharing what great fun it can be to do your own searching,  piecing together of the family, tracking where they went, who had what children etc etc!

I enjoy building up the tree and filling out the branches but she was hoping to find a living relative from her blood line as she is last that she knows of.  ianjones32 seemed to have a connection but has gone missing.  I will plod on for her. Anne

The site you mention has one tree which includes the Benjamin Wiltshire you are interested in. That person seems to be directly descended from the Alfred Martin and Esther Wiltshire marriage.

The tree you mentioned was most likely my friend ------------.  She did post on ancestry some time ago but is having problems trying to renew her membership with the card she uses in NZ.  Just wish   ianjones32   could spot my messages as he would appear to share her connections with Esther Wiltshire.  Anne

I can see Wyn's message posted on 13 Sep 2005 but there are no replies to it. She made another post the following year and the reply is just one trying to help with research in general suggesting directories etc.
I think since there are people interested in this family on Genesreunited that may be the better bet.
