Hi, can any one help?

I can't find one of my ancestor in the 1861 and 1851 census.

MORRIS NATHAN, born about 1842, Middlesex, father NATHANIEL.

I have him from 1871, with his family, to his death in 1916 Nottingham, but can not find him on the earlier census. I belive him to have a jewish connection, found other Nathan's in Nottingham, with birth places of New York, does  any one think he may have been out of the country on these census?

Any advise as to where I can look, would be helpful.

Hi Jennifer

From Morris's marriage certificate in 1866, Leicester, his father's occupation, is tailor. I do not know if there are any siblings, as I can only find Morris after his marriage, with his wife and children. I found a Nath Nathan, tailor, with his wife ,Amelia in the 1841, but going by his age he could be Morris's father or grandfather, but I can't find these also in the 1851 and 1861, but found them in the 1871, which makes me think that they may not be in the country.

In the GRO index there is a Morris Nathan, born 1842, but Birmingham, I think after my holidays, I will send for this certificate to see if it is my Morris, he may have been born Birmingham, but raised in Middlesex.

I think that Morris is likely to have died young

Births Dec 1842 
Nathan  Morris     Birmingham  16 275   
Deaths Dec 1842   
Nathan  Norris     Birmingham  16 188

Thanks for that, you've saved me £7. I have'nt found another Morris in the index, so he probably was'nt registered.

Still a mystery why I can't find him in the earlier census.
