James Forman off to Canada lookup please
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 20:38 UTC (UK) »

Hi folks
I'm looking for James Forman born 1858 in Warwickshire England, who went to Canada about 1873 (not before 1871 and not after 1875).
He returned by 1882.
If there were any Bates, Wilcox, or Forman's on the boat with him, it would be good to know.
Discovered my ancestry sub doesn't cover this bit!
Thanks

Hi tressle
Thanks for looking, I've asked my brother if he knows anymore. I'll post again when I hear from him

Hi Tressle

This is brother's - I hope - helpful comments

It could, I suppose, have been 1875-1880: it would make him aged 17-22, which would be quite possible if he was thinking of going over there to work on a farm etc. And it might be if that fell through he decided to join up instead. That's the only variable I can think of, unless of course he went via somewhere else, such as USA.

Hi Revmother2

I am going to post the only one that comes up instantly but I discounted previously because it was too late.

James Forman, aged 24, born about 1857, arriving in  Quebec on 6th October 1881, on the 'Ontario', which  departed Liverpool, single, labourer.

Above him on the passenger list is a J? Forman aged 32 - I don't know if they are any relation to one another.  They are both labourers and there are some brackets next to the names and it looks like hand written 'Some London' I really cannot be sure what it says though.

Tressle

Ps - This image is free to view on the Collections Canada site, they have digitised and indexed the Quebec arrivals between 1865 and 1900.

Hi tressle
Thank you so much - I shall pass it on to my brother who is busy putting this story together. The man concerned is my maternal great grandfather.
Thanks again
