Please can someone help me look for James Thomas Jupp - Parents and/ or James christening. ?
James was born in Horsham Sussex 1928 and died in Steyning Sussex 1996
I would appreciate some help please,if someone has the time. Thank you.

As Jan has said his mother's maiden name is Ashton. There is a George T Jupp marrying Nellie Ashton in 1927.

I would be tempted to order James' birth certificate to confirm these are his parents before you order their marriage certificate.

You just beat me to it! I was checking to see where Witney was and it's Oxfordshire, so I presume that's where Nellie lived and then they moved to Sussex.

Can you just confirm the correct date for James's birth is it 1928 or 1923,Joan says 1923 and Jan says 1928,and 1928 is the date I thought it was in the post I sent through.? Thanks very much.

Hi Joan,thanks for confirmation on James birth date.
Is there a chance we could trace George T Jupp and family (his parents and siblings) and Nellie Ashton back in the Census .!!
I don,t have access to this side of things ,but I can try to do it with some help if possible from anyone who is willing to help me. Thanks again.

I have just thought would I have to have this post transfered to the Witney,Oxfordshire page.?

Not really. The earliest census they would be on would be the 1911. You don't know their ages, father names or where they were born.

He could be their eldest or youngest child. There are at least two George T Jupps being born and that's just after a very quick look and the possibilites for Nellie Ashton are endless.

Sorry, you really need their marriage certificate, that will give their ages and father's names. Even then you might still need to get their birth certificates, and as yet you don't even know if they are his parents.

It is going to cost you, there is no way around it. BUT once you have his grandparents, things should get a whole lot easier (in theory) Grin

Ok Joan,as this family is not mine I will have to get permission from my friend who's family it is to send for the Certs. (I am trying to help her do her tree) Grin

I know how expensive it can be when I have been doing my own Ancestry.

Ahh Sophiedog I see you are like me, I have also done trees for friends/family. Addictive isn't it Grin

You could ask them to check with older relatives if any of them can remember their grandparents names. In the great scheme of things 1922 is not that long ago, possibly someone somewhere born to the next generation down should remember their grandparents names.

This would at least cut out his birth certificate.

Hiya - had a spare credit for 1911 so here you are -

Only one Nellie Ashton in Witney Oxfordshire in 1911 so guess this must be the family especially as her father was called James:

James Ashton 57 Bricklayer born Eynsham Oxfordshire
Fanny Ashton 48 ( married 28yrs) born Eynsham Oxfordshire
Franck Ashton 14 Yarn labourer born Eynsham Oxfordshire (poss yard labourer?)
NELLIE ASHTON 11 born Eynsham Oxfordshire
Emma Ashton 6 born Eynsham Oxfordshire
Ernest Ashton 25 Bricklayer born Eynsham Oxfordshire

Address: Acre End Street, Eynsham, Witney, Oxfordshire

As to George Jupp there are, as Joan said, lots born Sussex. There are no George T Jupp but there are 4 George Jupps in the 1911 census living in Horsham - born 1879 (32), 1887(24),1881(30) and 1867(44). It could be any one of these. I'd take a guess at the 24 or 30 year old, but the marriage cert of George and Nellie might give more of a clue.

There is a marriage for a JAMES ASHTON to a FANNY PHIPPS, Jun quarter 1883 Whitney Oxfordshire 3A 1054. This fits with the 28 years they say they have been married on the 1911 census.

Hi Jan,my friend has spoken to her elder sister and has confirmed your findings ,and we can cut out the need to get the Birth cert. Her sister is doing the Maternal side and remembered a bit more than my friend did about her Paternal Grandparents.

My friend is trying to do the Paternal side of their parents,So far we have her Father and Mother(deceased) Grandparents we now have, George Jupp and Nellie Ashton. (Nellie in the 1911 Census with her parents. )
