Jessie Smith
« on: Saturday 11 July 09 19:19 UTC (UK) »

Hello, I was wondering if a death registration showed the parents. I have found what I think is the entry that reported the death, Jessie Smith 10 Hastings 2b 26 Mar 1880. I have Jessie on the 1871 Census with her family but on the 1891 census she isn't there. Is there a for sure way to know if it is her.
Thank you for any info you can provide.

Hi

A death registration doesn't show parents but it is likely that one of them would be the informant so would be named on the certificate.

Have you tried to find a burial record, this usually in the case of children will show daughter of.....

Have you looked for a marriage for Jessie, it may be that she is not on the 1891 because she has left home or has married.

I didn't know about burial records or where I might find that info. I didn't think marriage because Jessie would only have been 10 years old in 1881 as she was 1 in 1871. Jessie wasn't on the 1891 census either so I assumed something had happened to her.

Hi Trina

Sorry you said 1891 census in your first post and I missed the date 1880 of the death record  Roll Eyes so it does sound like she probably died.

The other option is that she may be with grandparents or uncles and aunts, that's always worth checking if you know who they are.

I had a look on findmypast which has burial records but she wasn't there.  If you know where the family lived the burial records would be at East Sussex Record Office.

The family lived at 25 Priory St, Hastings. I also thought she could be away but she never did reappear on susequent census.  I did find that entry in my first post but have to way to check if it would have one of her parents names on it.
