Very interesting Gobbo  Smiley

No need to splash out on a cert without checking, the register office should be able to do that free before you part with any cash

As I suggested earlier, Chrissie, you should be able to check known details with the register office first, although they won't normally give out information that you can't tell them - it should be possible to check her age, address, if the informant was her husband and his name, etc

Hi...
Gobbo thats fantastic reading...the reason I said winter was My Mum said just after Isabellas death she went and took her Xmas decorations down..so she was sure end Dec begining Jan.
We were traveling on the Birmingham to Newcastle train,I remeber it being a bad crash...my little sister was thrown down the Isle and a man managed to grab her before a door fell off.  Isabella was aparently very worried about Mum and Dad when they finally got to the hospital as they were bandaged up.

Thanks for pm Chrissie, so Isabella may have remarried to a James Applegarth!
Any idea of the year?

Here's a possible death registration for her then:
March Qu 1968 Durham C   1a 347  APPLEGARTH  Isabel  aged 55

Just checking a couple of years either side for any other possible

Hi

In 1911 the family were living at 5 Chester Street, Cargo Fleet.  Charles and Catherine had had 8 children of whom 5 were alive on 2 April 1911.  These children were

Emma Agnes Leah 11
George Pearson 9
John William 8
Prudence 6
Elizabeth 2
all born in Middlesbrough

The births index started to include the mother's maiden name in the Jul-Sep quarter 1911 and there are two further Baldam/Balddam children with mother's name Mitchinson

Charles Balddam birth registered Jul-Sep 1913 Sedgefield District 10a 404
Edith Baldam birth registered Oct-Dec 1917 Sedgefield District 10a 292

There is about four years between the births of Charles and Elizabeth so another child is biologically possible.  The most likely period is May-Jun 1911 after the 1911 census and before the mother's name started being included in the index.  I cannot spot a likely female Baldam in this single quarter.

It is possible that the family failed to register Isabelle's birth or that her name is so badly scrambled that we have not found it.  However it may be profitable to research the girls that we do know about to be sure that none of them decided to change her name to Isabelle.  So what happened to Agnes, Elizabeth, Prudence and Edith?

All the best

Hi Chrissie

Thank you for your personal message.  You say that you have not heard of Elizabeth (age 2 in 1911) so this may be the girl who grew up to be Isabelle.  I think that her birth was registered as

Births Oct-Dec 1908 Baldam Rhoda Elizabeth Middlesbro 9d 524

I cannot find the death of a Baldam girl, born between 1 Oct 1907 and 1 Jan 1910, on Freebmd so it is possible that Elizabeth did survive to adulthood.

Don't worry about the name Old Gobbo - he was a comic character in the Merchant of Venice.

All the best
