Lane End registers - any FLORIDAs
« on: Friday 12 June 09 10:35 BST (UK) »

Hi to Matt94,

I note you have access to the Lane End Parish registers - I wonder whether you can find any with the surname FLORIDA in the registers. They originated in Radnage (just down the road) in the mid 1700s so may have spread a little by the time of your registers,

Thanks in anticipation

Hi The Snooper,

No Florida's in Lane End, I'll try Stokenchurch and Fingest when they arrive in the post. Any more lookups you'd like?

Sorry,
Matt

Matt,

Thanks very much for looking. I would be interested in any Floridas you find in Stokenchurch or Fingest too.

The first Florida that occurs in the area was Peter George FLORIDA who was eight years old when he was baptised in Radnage in 1769 and described as a "negro child". I am trying to trace any of his descendants. The direct line to my family I have it is the off shoots that are not complete but every little helps......

Cheers

Ok I will look up any FLORIDA's in Fingest and Stokenchurch. Given the proximity there should be a few. Are there any more surnames you'd like in Lane End and when Fingest and Stokenchurch parish registers arrive.

I see you have the Radnage Priest's Records or something like that; would it be ok if you looked for anyone with the surname Bennell, Benal or Bennett (And other versions).

Matt,

Thanks for the offer. A couple of the Florida girls married so there are children of William BRITTEN and John FLETCHER which would be of interest if either of these surnames appear.

In the Radnage Rectors Accounts book there are BENNELLs mentioned - particularly an Alice and a Thomas. I will sort out the relavant bits from my transcript and send them to you as a PM.

Cheers

What were the names of the girls who married and about what year did they marry? There are a few Fletcher's but not many Brittens

Hi Matt,

Elizabeth FLORIDA married William BRITTEN in West Wycombe in 1827 and I have found no further trace of them yet.

Ann Maria FLORIDA married John FLETCHER in Aylesbury in 1820 their children were born in Wycombe or West Wycombe I think

Look forward to hearing from you

It looks like these are the children of John Fletcher and Ann Maria Florida:

Mary Fletcher bap 04 Feb 1821 at West Wycombe
Rebecca Fletcher bap 12 May 1822 West Wycombe
Hannah Fletcher bap 15 Aug 1824 West Wycombe
James Fletcher bap 10 Dec 1826 West Wycombe
Edmund Fletcher bap 11 Apr 1830 West Wycombe

They are the children of John Fletcher and 'Ann'. This was taken from the IGI.

There aren't any Brittens at West Wycombe, Fingest or Stokenchurch
