Ev, I think you have the only Purgavie line in the whole of Scotland for that period
Hopefully filling a few gaps on the censuses:
1. I think William and Margaret are working together in 1841:
William Purgare, 30, carter, b. Scotland Margaret Purgaret, 30, FS, b. Scotland
Address: Coupars Ally, Dundee - lots of people at this address.
2. A maybe for Ann in 1841 and 1851:
Ann Purgarn, 30, FS, b. Scotland - working at the Meldrum household Address: Shore Terese, Dundee
Ann Purgavie, 35, FS, b. Longforgan - working at the Ramsay household Address: Seafield Cottage, Dundee
3. I think Euphane married although she shows with William brother by 1861. There is a marriage showing on 26 MAY 1850 in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh. Her father shows as David. Husband James Bertram. Can't see them as yet in 1851.
There is also a possible entry for her in Midlothian for 1841:
Euphenia Pulgare, 25, FS, b. Scotland - working at the Wilson household Address: Pottenshouse, Lasswade, Midlothian

Is this David's entry on SP's Wills & Testaments:
David Purgavie, 15/02/1869, Plash Miller at Trottick in the parish of Mains at Dundee Sheriff Court SC45/31/21
Last one from me There are a couple of trees showing on Ancestry for the family lines down from:
James Purgavie, born 1855 in the Parish of Liff who shows as a Police Constable in Dundee in 1881. Son of an Alexander P. and Jessie Bell. He married a Euphemia Gray.
Charles Burns Purgavie, b. 1859 in Kinclaven Perthshire, son of James - b. Longforgan c. 1824 - and Ann Grant). Charles Purgavie married a Mary Reid and moved at some point to Glasgow.

Although English, I am moving to Edinburgh for 6 months and will be only a short distance from Kinclaven where my great-grandmother (Christina Burns b.1884) was born.
Christina and her several sisters were born onto a family-run farm. Their father was William Burns (1840-1909) but their mother was Isabella Purgavie (1845-1938)
Although in this discussion she is not mentioned as a daughter of James Purgavie and Ann Grant by my reckoning she could theoretically be their eldest daughter who - at the age of 16 in the 1861 census- may already have moved out of the family home? Would this sound credible?
