Albert MITCHELL in Weymouth Workhouse
« on: Friday 12 June 09 11:32 UTC (UK) »

Albert was born in Taunton, Somerset but on the 1861 he and his siblings John (11), Emma (Cool and Alice (6) are all in the Weymouth Workhouse.  Any information as to how they came to be in Weymouth would be helpful.  The three names siblings were all born Melcombe Regis which is a part of Weymouth, Dorset.

No parents are mentioned and I would like to find out who they were and if they originated from Somerset.

Many thanks as someone always comes up with some lead or other.

Thanks Tati,

I see there is no mother mentioned but a daughter aged 23, do you think is a mistake - another mystery.  Now I need to get on the Dorset page and see what else comes up.  Really need the death of Mum and Dad to see why they were placed in the workhouse.

What is a Lastmaker?  anyone any idea.

Alright for some. Right that gives me a better starting point, right so probably both died Melcombe Regis?  How do I link this question to the Dorset page? Bit thick when to comes to some things.

Leftover from wedding anniversary  Wink

Given that the family are in Dorset in 1851 and the children still are in 1861, we'd expect the parents to have died there. Unfortunately there are several possible deaths for John in the Weymouth district. There's a Mary too, and a Maria but I can't see a Mary Ann Mitchell death. She could have remarried I suppose although I can't see a Mary Ann born ca. 1828 Bradford Somerset and living in Dorset on the 1861 census.

Hi all,

I think a Lastmaker is someone who makes the foot-shaped forms that are used for shoe making.
