Location of Fonts -COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 22:11 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I have numerous fonts in my Office package and have not needed to download any others until now so have not needed to know where they are stored  Undecided

I've now found some particular(free download)  Art Deco/Nouveau ones  that I want to try out  but I don't know where I should download them to. I've had a quick look around in the MS Office folders but can't find the location  Sad

Help!

Hi Gadget,

Assuming you're on XP, they are located at:

C:/Windows/Fonts

Just copy them over to that folder and they should install no bother. You may need to restart whatever app. you want to use them in. Smiley

Hi, Gadget,

I don't use MS Office, but I've always put extra fonts into the C/Windows/Fonts folder. OpenOffice seems to find them alright from there.

If the invites are going to be professionally printed, you will need to give a copy of the non-standard  fonts used to the printer... otherwise they turn out like blocks or other spurious characters.

I transcribed a beautiful 4 page letter from an ancestor dated 1840, which is very fragile. Saved and backed up, but didn't make a note of the font used. After my pc went a..up  the letter file is no longer readable unless I remember which font I used.  Another lesson learnt the hard way  Sad

... or print to PDF, or convert to a graphics format - the printers should be able to tell you which ones they can handle. Then the font file isn't needed.
