I had a look n FreeMD to see if there were any other male Stevensons marrying female Beardsleys about the same time
I did find a Charles R Stevenson married a Lillie beardsley
Sept qtr 1913 Nottingham district 7b 944
so there is a possibility that some of the Stevenson children with mother's maiden name Beardsley may belong to this couple -only the birth certs or baptism records would tell you which couple they belong to
there are these children's birth registered after 1920 father Stevenson, mother Beardsley

As gwendoline wasn't born until 1937 there may possibly be more children between 1928-1937
do you have any approximate dates for these children???

if you know the names and age of any of their children then that may narrow the search for a marriage - as that will have to be searched quarter by quarter and year by year -hope this helps

.. also the death reg for Roy SM Stevenson was in Derby district - he may have lived in Ilkeston district but if he died in Hospital (DRI or Derby city) then the death reg would have been in Derby district.

I have been on the 1911 census and found Joseph Moore Stevenson aged 14 working as a coal miner, in the census his Father has died as his Mother is a widow. She's called Mary E Stevenson aged 44 from Ilkeston and as well as Joseph M, there is Arthur Stevenson aged 21, coal miner, Frederick B Scatterford, aged 14, coal miner, Alice Stevenson aged 19 at school, Edith Stevenson, aged 8 also at school, and Ivy Sarah aged 2. The census says Joseph M was born in Bellvue, Yorkshire but everyone else is from Ilkeston.
What's the connection to the Scatterford family?. It sounds like Frederick might be from a previous marriage. Looking on freeMD in Basford district I have come up with James Stevenson & Mary Elizabeth B Scattergood married in Dec 1898.
This one just keeps getting more confusing, Can anyone help me out on this one?.

I would suggest that Frederick B Scatterford on 1911 - is really Scattergood ( a not unusual ilkeston name)
Have you seen the image or just the transcription in 1911

I cannot find a birth reg for mary Elizabeth buckland Scattergood - But there is (as posted) a baptism record
I am wondering if she was born shortly before parents married and was registered as Buckland - and not baptised until after the marriage
