Advice on oversea births

Hello, I have just started on another line of family tree. My ggrandfather Henry Knight was in 1891 living in Wellington barracks in the 1st foot guards,. age 23, Birth place Bahia Brazil. I have gone through the 1837 online and cannot find an entry for him.

1 is the 1837 online complete,
2 Will I be able to obtain his birth cert, from the GRO
3 If not where to go next.

Hello

1) The 1837 online site is complete. This is the same as what is available in England and Wales in the local family history centres.

2) If your GGrandfather was born in Brazil as you state then you will have to find the relevant place in Brazil to order his birth certificate as this is abroad your search may be a slow and more expensive one. Be patient you will find something on him, it will take time though

3) Try and find as much information on him that you know will be available in this Country. If he married do you know a rough year? Place of marriage? Is he in the 1901 UK Census?

You could also try and find more information on the 1st foot guards.

I will have a poke around and see if I can help you a little.......................

Thanks for the advice, Yes I have him on the 1901, and 1891 census, I also have his marrige cert, can,t find him on the 1881 census though.

Looks like it might be a long haul, interesting though.

What was his wife and his children's names?

Hello, his name was Henry Knight, married to Louisa Shepstone, 18th May 1891 age at marriage 24yrs. Fathers name Charles.

1891 living at wellington Barracks, Coporal 1st foot, barracks b age 23yrs.

1901 living at Odiham hampshire with Louisa and children.
Charles William Knight 1891 Westminster
Amy Louise Knight 1893 Westminster
Walter H Knight 1896 Middlesex Pimlico
James Alfred Knight 1897 Odiham Hampshire ( My Grandfather)
Louise Elizabeth 1900 Odiham

these I also have knowledge of,
Emily Marie 1902 Odiham
Lillian Rose 1904 Odiham
Evelyn Gwendoline
Margaret
charlotte

My grandfather moved to Andover Hampshire, where he married Annie Knioght, ( no relation prior to marriage).

hi

I was born overseas, to military personel and my father died over seas while in the army.

The GRO has some but not all births and deaths overseas. You many need to contact the British Consulate in that country. As i had to in order to obain a copy of my fathers death certificate. He died while serving in Germany.
